The dispute about the deployment of medium-range missiles in Germany during the 80s triggered a domestic crisis which led to mass blockades of military installations and a conspicuous lack of assurance shown by the highest courts in the country in judging these actions. From the viewpoint of a municipal court judge who was responsible for passing judgment on the blockades in Mutlangen, Werner Offenloch describes these events and his position as a judge. It is his opinion that it is only possible to make legal statements if one remains conscious of the transcendental character of the concept of the law.
