According to the New Testament, the Lord's Supper is to be held »in remembrance« of Christ. The question of what this commandment actually means is one of the central topics of sacramental theology in all churches as well as in the ecumenical dialogues between them. On all sides, the authoritative theological teachers of the past play a central part in these deliberations. Up to now, however, there has been no comprehensive study which dealt with this question in the Reformation as the author does in this work. After introductory chapters about the Late Middle Ages and Erasmus, she deals with the motif of remembrance in the works of Martin Luther, Andreas Karlstadt, Huldrych Zwingli, Johannes Oekolampad and Philipp Melanchthon, the main first generation Continental Reformers. The respective liturgies also come into focus.
