What is Protestant education? This question was at the heart of Friedrich Delekat's efforts at interdisciplinary communication. As an influential figure in the central discussions on the theory of education during the Weimar era and one of the leading theoreticians on education in the Confessing Church, Delekat fought for a modern active relationship between education and the Protestant faith up into the 1960s. In this study, the author explores Delekat's complex works in their biographical, contemporary and discursive contexts. In doing so, the author also shows how the present theory of religious education can meet the theoretical challenge which Delekat presented.
