Gewalt und Gewalten

The problems presented by new forms of national and international military and criminal violence challenge the classic boundaries between military and police, defence against enemies from outside and the maintenance of domestic peace and order. In dealing with those challenges, a new ethical criteriology is needed which allows for a conceptualization of the different problem areas, relates to the classical theories of the containment of violence as well as to pluralistic explanatory contexts and in doing so does not lose sight of the ambivalence in any use of force. The ethics of 'law -abiding force' - mainly devised by Hans-Richard Reuter - on which this volume focuses, present and apply this kind of criteriology.
