In dealing with the problem of »equality in the federal state«, Sigrid Boysen looks into fundamental issues pertaining to the dovetailing of the principle of the federal state and the dogmatics of fundamental rights. She examines the content of the general equality principle in a federal system, which produces varying legal forms as a result of its structure of competences. However her main focus is on the relationship between the fundamental guarantee of liberty, the fundamental right of participation and the fundamental duty to protect on the one hand and the federally prefigured divergence in the way comparable situations are dealt with in the individual federal states on the other hand. It is the author's intention to have a positive effect on the debate about the future of federalism, and in this work she provides fundamental insight into the federal dimension of the dogmatics of fundamental rights.
