The paths of the three distinctly different jurists Gönner, Feuerbach, and Savigny crossed repeatedly during their lifetimes. Bernd Mertens traces these encounters and reveals how the trio influenced Bavarian legislation in the nineteenth century to deliver a study from a previously unchartered perspective: that of interpretational sovereignty, the creation of legends, and their tenacious survival to the present.
