According to the sources of Ancient Israel, YHWH is not a static, unmoving, but rather a dynamic God, moved by humans and the world. This God in the interrelated diversity of his motion turns towards Israel, humans and the world, changing himself in time and history and in doing so retaining his identity. From the perspective of religion and the history of theology, the author reconstructs this history of YHWH, which presents the key topics of the cultural, religious and theological history of Ancient Israel. He deals with four main subjects: Due to YHWH's role as a god of weather and the sun, there is a strong focus on specific theological forms; added to this is the anthropological dimension resulting from YHWH's relationship to life and death; in conclusion the author deals with God's actions and human experience as they meet in the divine world order of history and wisdom.
