Summary
The church and theology are at present confronted with God being forgotten on a massive scale. This is a challenge which is causing theologians to pay more attention to the doctrine of God's 'characteristics', a doctrine which deals with the question of how human beings talk about God in concrete terms. Wolf Krötke presents a critical analysis of the concept of God's characteristics and shows that these are actually clear qualities in which God reveals himself to humans. These characteristics make it possible to talk about God in concrete terms, to be close to him and at the same time to clarify the fundamental questions of human life.
