Ilka Klöckner deals with the importance of foreign precedents in interpreting uniform European law. Her study is limited to EG/EU civil law and to selected areas of the uniform international law established by international treaties. The author explains the basic issues surrounding the unification of European private law, the objective of which might be a European code, and describes the mechanisms of the harmonization of legislation through case law.
