Summary
Herbert Cram managed the academic press Walter de Gruyter from 1923 till 1967. After enjoying economic success before 1945, hard times were to follow. Angelika Königseder documents these years and among other things reveals why giving up the company's Berlin headquarters was - despite political crises such as the Berlin Blockade of 1948/49 and the building of the Wall in 1961 - not an option for Cram.
