Summary
The Pelagian controversy of the 5th century changed the course of Christianity and established a pessimistic concept of man for centuries to come. Marc Bergermann shows that it was not until the Age of Enlightenment in the 18th century that there was a remarkable transformation which caused the controversial positions and the persons involved to be reassessed.
