Must a realist philosophy deny that there is only a mediated access to the world? Ingolf U. Dalferth argues that mediation is not the counter-program, but a core aspect of realism. Where immediacy is pitted against mediation, the self-evident of the lifeworld is confused with that which is given to us immediately and directly. This is shown by a critical discussion of important concepts of immediacy and the example of the lifeworld phenomenology of Edmund Husserl and Hans Blumenberg.
