Summary

A fresh encounter and an open dialogue between Islamic and Western professionals are badly needed and are offered in this book. This is a unique compilation of articles by Iranian and German professionals that has not been available in this form until now. It is up to date with its reports on the most recent reforms undertaken by the Iranian legislator and thus offers a unique source of information on the legal system of Iran, which is hardly known.

Jürgen Basedow (1949-2023):was Director at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law, Hamburg, and Professor of Law at the University of Hamburg; Membre associÃ© de l'Institut de droit international; Titular Member and Secretary General of the International Academy of Comparative Law; member of numerous advisory bodies at the German and EU level, inter alia, Chairman of the German Monopolies Commission; member of the Groupe europÃ©en de droit international privÃ©; and member of the Deutscher Rat fÃ¼r Internationales Privatrecht.

Nadjma Yassari ist Leiterin der Forschungsgruppe "Das Recht Gottes im Wandel: Rechtsvergleichung im Familien- und Erbrecht islamischer Länder" am Max-Planck-Institut für ausländisches und internationales Privatrecht, Hamburg.
