Irenäus als johanneischer Theologe

Is Irenaeus, as he writes himself, a pupil of Polycarp of Smyrna, the pupil of John, who wrote the Fourth Gospel? How strong are the Johannine traces in his work? How does he explain the Johannine Gospel?
