Summary
Margaret H. Williams examines Jewish communities in the Roman Empire, in particular the Jewish community of Rome itself. A marked feature of her studies is their use of inscriptional evidence, some of it published only recently. This enables her to reconstruct the lives of real Jews and to appreciate better their interaction with their non-Jewish neighbors, both pagan and Christian.
