In Germany, the protection of journalistic sources is considered one of the basic prerequisites for freedom of the press. However, the existing legal framework does not take sufficient account of the changed conditions brought about by digitization and globalization. The German »reporter's privilege« is in danger of being undermined, especially by U.S. investigative measures.
