Summary
When does the law permit you to renege on a promise? Francesca Mazza's book deals with what is considered to be one of the most difficult notions of Civil Law: the causa. The author undertakes to define the cases in which law allows one to revoke a promise that, according to all legal requirements, is already considered binding. Francesca Mazza leads the reader through the general principles of German contract law, highlighting the legal rules governing the irrevocability of promissory commitments and the laws that pertain to restitution. In a challenging way the author perceives analogies where lawyers are used to making distinctions, thus providing a different insight into fundamental legal concepts and a new perspective of examining the causa.
