Michael Dörnemann examines the subject of healing in the theology of Christian authors from Ignatius of Antioch to the Cappadocians, Basil, Gregory of Nazianzus and Gregory of Nyssa and also takes a look at the so-called 'apocryphal' writings. In doing so, he describes the religious, medical and philosophical backgrounds which influenced the way the Greek church fathers spoke of Christ as a doctor. The author's main focus is on the many medical metaphors which Christian authors used to explain the Christian doctrine of redemption.
