Karl Barth instigated the theological discussion in the 20th century as no other Protestant theologian was able to do. With his new formulation of Reformation insights, he furthered dogmatic reflection and in a discerning contemporaneity he accompanied the events of his time in the church and in politics. In his studies, Michael Beintker explores crucial turning points in Barth's works as well as the significance of 'dialectics' in his early theology and his preoccupation with Anselm of Canterbury's book about the ontological argument for the existence of God. Apart from the studies of Barth's political ethics, the volume also focuses on studies in the history of theology on the understanding of revelation during the Weimar Republic and the critical discussion with Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Friedrich Gogarten, his contemporaries.
