Karl-Otto Apel and Jürgen Habermas developed a hermeneutic transcendental philosophy for German speakers which endeavors to provide a synthesis of all the significant directions of modern thinking. In the essays collected in this volume, Hans Albert gives a comprehensive critique of the results of these endeavors. In an analysis of Wolfgang Röd's fallibilist transcendental philosophy, he also provides an outline of a realistic answer to the question of the condition of the possibility of knowledge.
