Kritische Ausgabe

In his Intimate letters concerning religion, Johann Joachim Spalding (1714-1804), the eminent Berlin theologian of the Enlightenment, idealy expressed the neological view about religion, which was at the same time traditional and modern. In between a rationalistic critique of religion and religious sentimentality, he defined Christianity a sensible revealed religion which appeals to the »whole person«. This work, which was published in three considerably revised editions and, in its last edition, expanded to include a detailed Addition addressed to Johann Friedrich Wilhelm Jerusalem (1709-1789), is being made available once again. The texts of all three editions have been integrated and are made accessible by means of the compact historical-theological introduction, the short explanations and the detailed indexes.
