Kult und Macht

In May 2008 an international colloquium on the interrelation of religion and rule in the Syro-Palestinian region in the Hellenistic-Roman period was held at the Faculty of Theology of the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen as part of the research training group »Images of Gods - Images of God - World Views: Polytheism and Monotheism in Antiquity.« The collection of essays which resulted from this contains most of the papers given and also some articles which have been added. Using an interdisciplinary approach, an attempt has been made to bring together the results of various research disciplines and to create a comprehensible synthesis in order to enable alternative insights into the cultural and religiously pluralistic territory of Syro-Palestine in the Hellenistic-Roman period.
