Summary
Knud E. Løgstrup sees the philosophy of art in the Kantian tradition as a study of the aesthetic judgment and as an analysis of the 'aesthetic experience.' He asks what we experience when we study art, and explains the phenomena in experiencing art using a variety of examples from literature, painting and cinematic art. He believes that art can trigger knowledge and moral impulses and can give us access to an elementary level of our reality which is inaccessible for our historical and goal-oriented understanding. The Kantian approach, which separates art from knowledge and morality, has according to Løgstrup become a determining factor in our epoch. However, through his philosophy of art and existence Løgstrup questions the applicability of this common sense.
