This volume presents the previously unpublished manuscripts of his lectures on the legal and political aspects of agrarian history from the Roman Empire and the Middle Ages to the creation of the modern agrarian society in the 19th century.
In his early lectures, Max Weber regarded agrarian policy as a social science. This volume presents the previously unpublished manuscripts of his lectures on the legal and political aspects of agrarian history from the Roman Empire and the Middle Ages to the creation of the modern agrarian society in the 19th century. These lectures, held in Berlin in 1894, in Freiburg in 1895 and in Heidelberg in 1897/98, give an impression of his immense knowledge of social and economic history. The comparative approach chosen by Max Weber has also acted as a stimulus for contemporary research on social and economic history. The introduction and the editorial reports as well as a bibliography of the works Max Weber used, an index of persons, and a glossary enable the reader to understand his lectures, which were written in the keywords and short sentences typical of Weber.
