This volume contains an edited version of two manuscripts on law which are part of Weber's outline for »Economy and Society.« A thorough examination of these texts unearths deeper layers which have now become readable for the first time and which are relevant for the controversial interpretation of the text. Weber detaches himself from a juridical centricity of the normative world and outlines a way of viewing things from the perspective of world legal history in a cross-cultural comparison.
This volume contains an edited version of two manuscripts on law which are part of Weber's outline for »Economy and Society.« One of these texts is entitled »The Economy and the Orders«, the other is a longer untitled collection of texts which has been handed down as a so-called »Sociology of Law.« Both texts share a genetic connection, whose purpose is to deal with »Economy and Law« in their principal relationship as well as the »Epochs of the Development of the Current Status,« as evidenced by the outline of the subjects covered in the entire work. A thorough examination of these texts unearths deeper layers which have now become readable for the first time and which are relevant for the controversial interpretation of the text. Weber detaches himself from a juridical centricity of the normative world and outlines a way of viewing things from the perspective of world legal history in a cross-cultural comparison. This makes him seem particularly relevant today for a debate on the connection between globalization and legal analysis.
