Summary
In this study, Cornelius Torp presents the first detailed analysis of Max Weber's attitude towards the Prussian landed gentry, the so-called 'Junkers'. Througout his life Weber was a sharp critic of Junkerdom. For Weber, the Junkers were the epitomi of the Wilhelminian social system. He regarded their position in state and society as the key to the social and political structure of the German empire and its cleavages.
