Max Weber und Thukydides

The works in this volume give an account of Wilhelm Hennis' analysis of Max Weber's »central question«, which he began dealing with in 1982. A title essay, written by the author especially for this book and published here for the first time, documents Thucydides' importance for Weber's scholarly and political way of thinking, which he acquired after reading Wilhelm Roscher's Thukydides, published in 1842, by familiarizing himself with Nietzsche's understanding of Thucydides and above all through studying Jacob Burckhardt's Griechische Kulturgeschichte ('History of Greek Culture').
