Summary
Johannes Zimmermann presents a comprehensive description and interpretation of Messianic texts from Qumran. He analyzes all the relevant texts, considers previous research on the subject and shows a synthesis of how the Messiah was seen in the Qumran texts. He focuses on the 'new' texts, which were unknown up to a few years ago, such as 4Q246 (the »Son of God«), 4Q285 (the »Prince« in the apocalyptic war) and 4Q521 (»Messianic apocalypse«). In his interpretation, he tries to steer a middle course between an excessively standardized interpretation on the one hand and a completely isolated examination of individual texts on the other hand, taking into consideration the historical and traditional contexts and the roots of these texts in the Old Testament. He concludes his work with a preview of the New Testament.
