Summary
Falk Wagner calls to mind the varied transformations German-speaking Protestantism has undergone since the second half of the 18th century. His purpose is to replace the predominant 'theologian's theology', which feigns dogmatic clearness, by a theology of religion which takes care of the interests of those religions which are lived individually. He therefore pleads particularly for the continuation of those modernization efforts being made by classical neo-Protestantism, in spite of the fact that this process has been racked by crises. These efforts were initiated by a small number of theologians and philosophers, from Schleiermacher to Troeltsch, who recognized the need for reform.
