Metapher und Kreuz

Although Luther's theology of the cross has always been an important subject of research, there are scarcely any suitable historical-systematic monographs which deal particularly with Luther's interpretation of the crucified Risen One. Jens Wolff provides a case study of the cross and the resurrection. Making use of various examples, he analyzes Luther's interpretation of Psalm 22 in Luther's second lecture on the Psalms. This shows a close connection to the 'Antilatomus' and the phrase »Christus…factus est pecattum metaphorice« (2 Cor. 5:21). The author demonstrates how Luther uses metaphors of Christ to show that Christ is constantly present, but he does not play down the crucifixion. The author was awarded the Martin Luther Prize in Wittenberg for this work.
