Continuing along the lines of the scholarly studies on the spatial mobility of people or rather on the in between, Bettina Severin-Barboutie examines practices, tactics and modes of coming, going and staying from the end of the Second World War up to the 1980s, using Stuttgart and Lyon as examples. In doing so, she focuses on men, women and children of Italian nationality in both cities. In addition, for Stuttgart she also studies Turkish nationals, and for Lyon Muslims from Algeria. The historical analysis of the practices, tactics and modes of the coming, going and staying of these people enlarges the perspective on multiple mobilities after 1945. Its purpose is also to show that the in between is just as relevant for understanding human movement as the before and after and thus should be included systematically in the historical analysis.
