The essays in this volume, which is the result of a conference held in memory of Paul Gerhardt's 400th birthday in 2007, come from different disciplines, thereby reflecting the manifold dimensions of Gerhardt's work. Historians as well as theologians, German and Latin philologists and musicologists have contributed to this collection, which presents the most comprehensive and up-to-date description of the life, works and reception of Paul Gerhardt available up to now. An edition of previously unknown documents from the academic context which had a formative influence on Gerhardt's theology as well as a comprehensive bibliography up to the year 2007 complete the picture.
