Eilert Herms reinforces the fundamental theological approach, which sees the connection between revelation and the constitution of phenomena: revelation causes the appearance of the truth of the Gospel, thus making the reality of faith a certainty.
The public discussion on Christianity is dominated by external points of view which look at Christianity from the perspective of other religions or scholarly theories. Can the internal viewpoint of faith enter into a dialogue with these external viewpoints without pretending to agree with or actually taking the outside view? Eilert Herms is optimistic that this can be done, and in order to ensure its success he enlists the support of elements of Christian self-conception. This means that reality is the same for everyone, and that reality is accessible for us because it appears to us to be a complex of phenomena. This complex comprises the sensory experience as well as the way we experience ourselves as human beings. This volume reinforces the fundamental theological approach, which sees the connection between revelation and the constitution of phenomena: revelation causes the appearance of the truth of the Gospel, thus making the reality of faith a certainty.
