Summary
In this work, the author deals with the relationship between theology and philosophy since the beginnings of philosophy in Greece. He concentrates on the reception of ancient philosophy, mainly Platonism and Aristotelianism, in early Christianity and the Middle Ages. In the second part of the work, he begins with the Renaissance and deals mainly with the influence of the new philosophical systems upon theology since Descartes. In the third part, he focuses on the impact of Kant and Hegel. Jan Rohls concludes the book by dealing with the three main schools of modern philosophy: analysis of language, hermeneutics and Neo-Marxism and their theological significance.
