In Plato's works, the beautiful has esthetic, ethical, epistemological and metaphysical relevance and thus can be said to be one of the integral figures of thought in his writings. In this volume, the authors deal with various philological-literary and philosophical approaches to differently focused problems pertaining to the form and nature of beauty, to beauty itself, to the role of Eros in the context of the beautiful as well as to the relationship between the beautiful and the good on the level of ideas.

Das Schöne hat bei Platon ästhetische, ethische, epistemologische und metaphysische Relevanz und darf daher als eine der ganz zentralen Denkfiguren Platons gelten. So werden in diesem Band verschiedene philologisch-literaturwissenschaftliche und philosophische Ansätze zu unterschiedlich fokussierten Fragestellungen um Schönheit in Form und Wesen, zum Schönen an sich, zur Rolle des Eros im Kontext des Schönen sowie zum Verhältnis von Schönem und Gutem auf der Ebene der Ideen behandelt. Platons Ästhetik, Ethik, Psychologie, Dialektik und Metaphysik bieten für die Verhandlung dessen, was 'schön' ist und was 'Schönheit' bedeutet, besonders relevante Perspektiven.
