Church practice and Christian life around 1968 were confronted not only with processes of change, but were themselves part of contemporary efforts to change. On the one hand, practical theology was faced with the tasks of focussing on traditional issues such as worship and pastoral care, reforming the church's organisational structures and its career profiles, as well as more general questions of democratisation and politicisation. On the other, it had to prove its proficiency as an academic subject capable of transforming its self-image. This volume documents aspects of both practical relevance and theoretical competence that together show just how practical theology can meet current challenges.
