Jan Rohls deals with Protestant theology from 1789 on. The work is divided into individual sections for each epoch, and in these sections the theology of the epoch in question is described in a cultural and political context, mainly however in a philosophical context. The methodical development is also dealt with briefly. Jan Rohls does not restrict himself to German theology; his book covers Protestant theology in France, Great Britain, USA, the Netherlands and Scandinavia. He gives the reader a comprehensive survey of the theological tendencies, schools and systems.
