Does the Reformation mark a caesura in the history of Christian anti-Judaism? What did reformatory Christianity and the consequences that resulted through reciprocation with other coefficients signify for the turning of anti-Judaism into eliminatory anti-Semitism? These much-discussed subjects are brought to a new level of differentiation and multi-perspectivity by the contributions in this volume. Other than is usually the case, the focus is not immediately placed on Martin Luther and his »Judenschriften«. Instead, sixteenth century references take into account the relationship between the contemporaneity and the Jews. With regard to the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the varying German Protestant Judaism stances and their origins are broached. Lastly, contrasting light is shed on the international scene with non-German Lutheran countries and churches on the one hand, and countries that were characterised by other confessional traditions on the other.
