Summary
European Union directives serve to harmonise laws in member states and are only justified by their effectiveness. But in the case of the loosely-framed Council Directive 1999/70/EC concerning the framework agreement on fixed-term contracts, this seems doubtful. However, Sudabeh Kamanabrou's comparative analysis of such contracts in 15 member states comes to the surprising conclusion that the level of protection is essentially comparable.
