In 2017 Mohr Siebeck's long-term editor-in-chief for law, Dr. Franz-Peter Gillig, retired from the publishing house. This gave friends, colleagues, and legal scholars the opportunity to pay homage to him during a symposium entitled »Law as a Vocation«. Tributes were delivered by three distinguished authors, who expressed their views on the role of jurisprudence, its self-conception, and the issues it has to tackle. This book contains revised and extended versions of these papers, as well as a more detailed version of the editor's welcoming speech.
