Rudolf Bultmann und seine Zeit

To testify to the liberating truth of the Christian faith properly and simultaneously in a manner fitting the times was a central motivating factor in Rudolf Bultmann's theological work, and something which also characterised his dialogue with other scholars. He debated questions of form criticism with Hermann Gunkel, critically analysed Wilhelm Hermann's concept of faith and argued with Karl Barth about the determination of the relationship between Christology and soteriology. And in his encounter with Judaism and exchanges with his master student of philosophy Hans Jonas, Bultmann bound theological insight together with the empathy of humanity.
