Artur Geier examines intellectual property overlaps from an economic standpoint by looking at the behavior of potential imitators after patent or design protection has expired. The author's analysis is based on the rational choice model and is confirmed by Behavioral Economics findings, enabling him to show that such overlaps increase legal uncertainty for potential imitators and make imitation a more expensive and therefore less attractive option.
