Summary
Noxal liability is a peculiar invention of the Romans. If a slave committed an offence, the owner could choose between paying a fine and noxal surrender of the offender to the injured party. Armin Heßelschwerdt's study is the first monograph to examine the legal problems that arose when such a slave was co-owned as servus communis .
