Basic social guarantees are regarded as human rights both in international public law and European law. In German law however this is not the case. What does this mean, what do these guarantees mean and what impact do they have on German law? Eberhard Eichenhofer explores these questions, showing the significance of social human rights for the interpretation of social policy and social law, equality, liberty and the social state based on the rule of law, explains the origins of social human rights, describes their scope and illustrates their relevance for international, European and German law.
