Summary

The ageing population in Germany represents a fundamental challenge to the social security system. In this book, the authors analyze the relationship between demographic change and health care, long-term care and old age pension systems in Germany. They discuss various reform options and evaluate their possible consequences. It is also discussed to which extent social security encourages demographic change.

Volker Ulrich Geboren 1958; 1983-88 Wiss. Mitarbeiter am Sonderforschungsbereich 5 'Staatliche Allokationspolitik im marktwirtschaftlichen System', Universitäten Mannheim und Heidelberg; 1988 Promotion; 1989-95 Wiss. Assistent an der Universität Mannheim; 1995 Habilitation; 1996 Lehrstuhlvertretung an der Universität der Bundeswehr in München; seit 1997 Professor für Allgemeine Volkswirtschaftslehre, insbesondere Finanzwissenschaft, an der Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Universität Greifswald.
