What impact does language have upon law? Does language shape the law? Do different languages shape the law in different ways? How does our thinking influence the law? What happens if the law that lives in and through language is translated from one language into another? What impact do scripture and signs have upon the law? What do numbers mean to the law? How does thinking in images influence the law? What role does the different perception of time play in the law? The contributions to this publication familiarize the reader with the creative power of language and with law as a creation of language. From the interaction of language and law, the authors draw conclusions regarding the interpretation and application of law, the translation of law within multilingual legal systems (e.g., Switzerland and Finland) and within the European Union, and deal with the comparison and harmonization of laws of different countries. One of the contributions to this publication honors the life and scientific oeuvre of Professor Bernhard Grossfeld.
