Summary

The key function of nationality law lies in its abstract ability to resolve the conflict between individual freedom and collective self-determination. Ferdinand Weber pleads for a status of »bound openness«, which interlinks the liberal state's respect of personal freedom and the need to preserve political self-determination in today's supranational legal pluralism.
