Stiftsköpfe

»Stiftsköpfe« - this is what Ernst Müller named his 1938 story about prominent scholarship students at the Evangelische Stift, the house of studies for Protestant theological students in Tübingen. This collection of essays does not attempt to write another story of these students altogether. It does however compile 50 biographies from five centuries - from the 16th to the 20th century. It deals with such famous figures as Kepler, Schelling, Hegel, Hölderlin or David Friedrich Strauß, but its spectrum is much broader: from a zoologist (Weinland) to an arctic explorer (Bidlingmaier), from a guardianship regent who issued the Pietistenreskript in 1743 (Bilfinger) to prominent figures from the struggles between 1933 and 1945 (Riethmüller, Schempp, Diem). Particular use was made of the papers and documents from the archives of the Evangelische Stift for this work.
