Summary
This Festschrift to mark Gerhard Werle's seventieth birthday reflects the broad spectrum of his scholarship. It includes chapters on international criminal law, transnational criminal law and transitional justice, modern legal history and German criminal law and procedure. Werle's research on criminal law in Nazi Germany, and on the prosecution of atrocity crimes committed under the Nazi rule, in the German Democratic Republic and in Apartheid South Africa is still of fundamental importance today. He has gained international renown as the author of 'Principles of International Criminal Law', a leading treatise, which has been translated into numerous languages and is now in its fifth edition.
