The research group »Ecumenical Perspectives in Fundamental Theology«, consisting of scholars from Tübingen and Heidelberg University's Faculty of Protestant Theology and Rome's Lateran Pontifical University, publishes here the first examination and exposition of Roman Catholic and Lutheran doctrines on Baptism and Holy Communion, prepared in interconfessional conversations, and presented within the framework of their respective overall views of the process of revelation (fundamentum fidei dynamicum). Theologians from both traditions seek together to define both their own and the other's doctrinal intention, in order to arrive through a deeper understanding of both teachings at a clearer definition of their own doctrinal view. This opens up new possibilities of dialogue and interaction for both sides.
